SUMMARY:Friday Night Jazz: Jingu Bang
DESCRIPTION:The Red Hot Jazz Club presents\nJingu Bang\n  \n*N.B. Online ticket sales have now stopped. Entry tickets will be available to purchase on the door from 7.30pm on Friday.* \n  \nA night of free-flowing jazz funk mastery \n  \nThe Red Hot Jazz Club welcomes the fabulous funk-fusion sound of Jingu Bang to Glastonbury. \n“During unsettled times\, five travellers from distant lands went in search of their destiny. In the imposing mountains soaring high above the bamboo forests of Bristol\, they banded together as one unstoppable force\, and accepted the calling of the JINGU BANG.” \nOne of the funkiest jazz outfits on the thriving Bristol music scene\, Jingu Bang’s free-flowing funk mastery is expressed across the lands through both their own creations and by honouring the classic tunes of Herbie Hancock & The Headhunters\, Jaco Pastorius\, Weather Report\, Brotherly and much more. \nThis will be a pure funk sensation from a stunning group of musicians. \nJoin us in the earthly realms as they leave no stone unturned in their mission to bring you their irrepressible… funky magic! \n  \n“Given the line-up of mostly familiar faces it was unsurprising to find Jingu Bang was a well-oiled machine delivering the impeccable grooves their repertoire demanded. The dominance of Herbie Hancock numbers meant that keyboard player Dale Hambridge could have a lot of fun\, whether percussively chopping out classic flanged wah-wah chords or letting his right hand run riot with Fender Rhodes solos.  \n“Alongside him bass player Greig Robinson offered absolute reliability\, with Ruth Hammond’s tenor sax stretching out the melodic ideas to usher in an emphatic solo from drummer Scott Hammond. \n“Lisa Cherian’s congas provided the atmospheric undertow that had been adding an Afro-Latin flavour throughout the evening\, giving the whole sound some real distinction.” \n– Tony Benjamin (B24/7)\, The BeBop Club\, Bristol – 2022 \n  \nFriday 6th October \nDoors: 7.30pm \nStart: 8pm \n  \nTickets \nEntry: £12 advance / £15 on the door \nVeggie Tagine with Couscous*: £9.50 (advance booking only) \nLamb Tagine with Couscous*: £9.50 (advance booking only) \n*For special dietary requirements\, please contact The Old Tannery restaurant on theoldtanneryglastonbury@outlook.com or 01458 440558. \nPlease note food options are subject to change. \n  \nFor more information about this event\, please contact theredhotjazzclub@gmail.com \n  \n18’s and over only \nPlease note\, tickets are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled

SUMMARY:Arto Lindsay feat. Melvin Gibbs
DESCRIPTION:Arto Lindsay feat. Melvin Gibbs\n  \nArto Lindsay\, self-taught corrosive guitar scratcher\, might be the closest experimental noise has to a soul man. Since the late 1970s\, when he unleashed one of the world’s greatest manifestations of—in the immortal words of Lester Bangs—“horrible noise” with his experimental rock trio DNA\, one of the flag-bearers of the New York City’s downtown No Wave zeitgeist — this vanguardist guitarist\, singer\, record producer and experimental composer has spent decades at the off-the-beaten sonic paths and colorful intersections of music creations and stage performances\, including forging art-pop (a)tunes that melds koan-like poetry with the sophisticated Latin pop he grew up hearing while living in Brazil with his missionary parents. His heavy involvement\, as both artist and producer\, in a string of Tropicalia and Bossa records from the late 1980s onwards attest to his maverick\, shape-shifting interests. \nMost of Arto’s songs bask in a lovely sonic tension\, where the hushed intimacy of the melodies and vocals is battered by low-end grooves that shimmy with elegance but aren’t overcrowded by the singer’s gentle warble. The King of Skronk doesn’t play actual soul jams. Rather\, his trademark iconoclastic guitar style is\, kinda unsexy-sexy: rhythmic\, atonal\, full of discordant bursts and unseemly\, metallic feels. But in a career that goes back more than 40 years\, with help from a changing cast of instrumentalists and songwriters at the vanguard of various styles\, including his long-time collaborator Melvin Gibbs\, the pioneer “non-musician” Arto Lindsay has put a high premium on feelings\, expressing universality of love and intimacy even while he’s bucking convention. \nWatch Arto Lindsay play ‘Illuminated’ here: www.youtube.com/watch \nWatch Arto Lindsay play ‘Simply Are’ here: www.youtube.com/watch \n  \nBorn and raised in Brooklyn\, NY\, Melvin Gibbs has been called “the greatest bassist in the world” by Time Out New York magazine and was cited for particular mention by New York Times in their “Best Jazz Performances of 2017”. He first came to notice as a member of Defunkt\, a pioneering band that rose out of the early 1980s no wave scene. He and longtime friend Vernon Reid\, leader of the band Living Colour\, were members of Ronald Shannon Jackson’s seminal free-funk group The Decoding Society. Since 1998\, along with drummer JT Lewis and guitarist Brandon Ross\, Gibbs has been a member of the band Harriet Tubman. Another band Gibbs co-led\, Eye And I\, was the inspiration for the Black Rock Coalition. Along with Ronald Shannon Jackson and Bill Frisell\, he formed the group Power Tools. And as a member of The Rollins Band he was nominated for a Grammy. The list of artists he’s played with includes Femi Kuti\, Caetano Veloso\, dead prez\, Eddie Palmieri\, David Byrne and many others. \n  \nThursday 19th October \n8pm – 9.30pm \nFREE ENTRY \n  \n  \n18’s and over only
