SUMMARY:'FleeceFest' Free Mini Festival
DESCRIPTION:‘FleeceFest’ Free Mini Festival\n  \nCome join us for an afternoon of live music\, craft\, art\, food and drink and find out something new about the history of Glastonbury. \n  \nA brand new\, free mini festival aimed at young people is coming to the Red Brick Building in September! It promises a day full of creativity\, live music and local food. And\, what’s more\, the whole event has been organised by a fantastic team of young people. \nThe festival is part of a national project called New Wave\, which encourages young people to get involved in heritage-related activities. It coincides with the national Heritage Open Days festival organised each year\, which celebrates the rich history and heritage of communities across the UK. \nFleeceFest is a one-day mini festival with live music\, craft\, food\, and mural painting. It’s completely free to attend and\, while it’s aimed at young people\, all ages are welcome and there will be plenty for everyone to do. \nOne of the highlights will be painting a mural that celebrates and encapsulates the history of the Red Brick Building’s industrial past as a former sheepskin factory. The mural was sketched out in July by a group of young people\, helped by local artist Jon Minshull. The design uses images from Morlands Magazines as well as quotes from some of the stories of people who worked in the factories\, to tell the story of change at the Red Brick Building site. You’ll see the iconic Morlands gates\, sheep\, shoes\, chimneys and lots of people working busily. The mural will be painted in full colour during FleeceFest\, so do come along and join in if you like to get creative! \nYou’ll notice that there’s something sheepy about this event too\, with the chance to get creative with sheepskin crafts led by local textile expert Liana. Plus\, enjoy live music from local musicians\, including the premiere of new songs inspired by the stories of workers from the historic Morlands and Baily’s factories. \nThe name FleeceFest is a nod to the Red Brick Building’s past as part of the Morlands sheepskin factory\, a key player in Glastonbury’s economic and social history during the 20th century. The event will honour this heritage\, particularly the craftsmanship and memories of those who worked in the sheepskin industry. \nThis will be a relaxed afternoon for anyone who is inquisitive\, creative or who would just like to discover a new place in the community. Our fantastic team of young people have been working hard to create and organise this mini festival\, and we can’t wait to see it in action. Pop along\, bring a mate\, and enjoy a creative day for all the family! \n  \nThis event is being held in our Community Garden. All are welcome. \n  \nSaturday 14th September \n11am – 4pm \nFREE ENTRY \n  \nTickets: Booking is not compulsory\, but it helps us to estimate how many people will be attending. Please book a free ticket (below) if you can\, to help give us an idea of numbers. \n

SUMMARY:John Otway
DESCRIPTION:John Otway\nSolo Show \n  \n— \nAdvance ticket sales have now stopped. Additional tickets will be available on the door from 8pm. \n— \n  \nA national treasure\, celebrating his 5\,000th gig! \n  \nRock veteran John Otway is an English singer-songwriter who has built a sizeable cult audience through extensive touring\, a surreal sense of humour and a self-deprecating underdog persona. \nOtway dubbed himself “rock’n’roll’s greatest failure” after many unsuccessful attempts to produce a second hit single to follow his 1977 classic ‘(Cor Baby\, That’s) Really Free’ with Wild Willy Barrett. \nHowever\, a mere quarter century later\, he was back on Top of The Pops with the wonderful disco pastiche\, ‘Bunsen Burner’ and back in the charts as a birthday present from his adoring and patient fans. \nExpect madcap mayhem and some scintillating stunts from a man old enough to know better … and also to be surprised at just what a showman and musician really lies underneath the tomfoolery. \n  \n“A brilliant ability to inspire”  – THE GUARDIAN \n“Brilliant observationally … part of me just wants to stand up and applaud”  – STEVE LAMACQ \n“The audience were in fits of hysteria”  – SALISBURY JOURNAL \n  \nN.B. This performance will be taking place in The Old Tannery restaurant\, due to our Event Space currently being temporarily closed. \n  \n  \nFriday 20th September \n8pm – 10.30pm \n  \nTickets \n£16 advance \n£18 on the door \n  \n18’s and over only \nPlease note\, tickets are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled

SUMMARY:Enrico Merlin x BEJE
DESCRIPTION:Big Bromo Promotions presents: \nBEJE / British European Jazz Ensemble\nEnrico Merlin x BEJE\n  \nProgressive and thrilling ‘soundscape’ jazz: music without boundaries \nPart of the ‘Siblings Not Fools’ Tour 2024 \n  \nBEJE’s distinctive and energetic contemporary jazz performances are always about collaboration\, whether with other players or other cultures. A unique world music-tinged jazz ensemble\, its line-up of different sensibilities and skills from all over the continent\, its widespread influences\, and its union of eclectic styles manifests in powerful creations of improvisation and composition alike. It acknowledges no boundaries\, is relentless in its exploration of innovative ingredients for sonic fusion\, and embraces humanity by mirroring diversity in its music. \nThis Autumn\, BEJE tours ‘Siblings Not Fools’\, a celebration of the creative energy and unity possible when cultures meet through the medium of music\, and a testament to Martin Luther King Jr.’s 1964 declaration: ‘live together as brothers or perish together as fools’. This series of collective collaborations with international artists from Korea\, Palestine\, Italy\, and Wales\, is presented (and recorded live for an anthology album to be released in the new year) primarily at grassroots and non-traditional venues\, and is supported by skills/experience development workshops. \n“A vibrant contemporary Jazz augment for international cultural exchange.” – Venue Magazine \n“Musically gifted… Creative and technically excellent musicians.” – Black Mountain Jazz \n  \nFrom Milano\, Italy\, guitarist-composer Enrico Merlin is a powerhouse improviser of boundless invention\, and an acclaimed Miles Davis authority. He plays rich\, complex and restlessly curious contemporary jazz\, here underpinned by the superb musicianship of global-jazz collective BEJE. A leading voice in Italy’s jazz and improv scene\, Enrico’s signature guitar sound\, astonishing technique\, distinctive composing vision\, and freely spontaneous playing\, are justly acclaimed. Journey into the great musical unknown; this is exploratory music of rare and intense beauty\, infused with wonder. \nWorld-class guitar-jazz at its most dynamic\, playful\, impressionist\, and innovative; evocative and electrifying sonic worlds fizzing with surprises\, and turning from delicate cinematic dreamscapes to fierce maelstroms of music. Every performance is unique and unrepeatable. \n“A tour-de-force” – Mono & Stereo Magazine \n  \n  \nFriday 25th October \n8pm – 10.30pm \n(Doors\, 7.30pm) \n  \nTickets \n£5 – £15 \nAdvance tickets available here: www.ticketsource.co.uk/BEJE \n

It is woven from all our stories and memories\, and it is constantly changing and evolving. \nOur experience of heritage is closely connected with our sense of wellbeing. For example\, taking part in local heritage walks helps people to connect with others\, be active and feel inspired about the place they live in – as they stop to admire important buildings\, vibrant street art\, or trees that have held local significance over hundreds of years. \nIf you would like to explore the links between heritage and wellbeing\, why not train to become a ‘Heritage Connector’. The session will be jointly hosted by Health Connections West Mendip and the Bishop’s Palace & Gardens. \nHeritage Connectors can inspire people to engage more with local heritage and its wellbeing benefits\, through informal conversations and simple signposting. \nThose attending the training session will have the opportunity to connect with others who are passionate about our local heritage – which includes sites like Glastonbury Abbey\, the Tor\, the Bishop’s Palace\, Wells Cathedral\, Morlands’ and Clarks’ industrial history\, the Glastonbury Mural Trail\, the Avalon Marshes\, the Mendips AONB\, local natural springs – and much more. \nHeritage Connectors will also have the opportunity to take part in special events. This includes a private view at Wells Cathedral of the book A New Herball\, by William Turner\, a former Dean at the Cathedral\, published 1568. The book is not currently on public display. It is the earliest plant book written in English and is illustrated with woodcuts which help explain the appearance\, habitat and medicinal use of plants. \n  \nWednesday 20th November \n10am – 12pm \nFREE \n  \nFor more info and to book: \nBook your free place here: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/heritage-connector-training-west-mendip-tickets-1075926548269 \nFor more details\, please contact Fen Bagias on 07538 546139 \n

SUMMARY:Faris Ishaq x BEJE
DESCRIPTION:Big Bromo Promotions presents: \nBEJE / British European Jazz Ensemble\nFaris Ishaq x BEJE\n  \nA solidarity concert for Palestine \nA masterful meld of Palestinian folk music and spine-tingling jazz \n  \nMesmerising contemporary and ‘cosmic’ jazz\, channelling the ecstatic spirit of 1960’s saxophone visionary John Coltrane\, and here deeply infused with Palestinian melodies and rhythms. Acclaimed nay reed-flute master Faris Ishaq is given punchy\, characterful support by global-jazz ensemble BEJE on spine-tingling music ranging from meditative atmospherics to primal improvisation: by turns profoundly beautiful\, frantically urgent\, joyfully strange\, and yieldingly delicate. \n  \nBEJE’s distinctive and energetic contemporary jazz performances are always about collaboration\, whether with other players or other cultures. \n“A vibrant contemporary Jazz augment for international cultural exchange.” – Venue Magazine \n“Musically gifted… Creative and technically excellent musicians.” – Black Mountain Jazz \n  \n  \nFriday 29th November \n8pm – 10.30pm \n(Doors\, 7.30pm) \n  \nTickets \nAdvance tickets will be available here: www.ticketsource.co.uk/BEJE \n
