SUMMARY:Air Piano
DESCRIPTION:We’re delighted to be returning to the Red Brick building on Wednesday 28th March after our successful robot building day last year. \nUse a Raspberry Pi and basic electronics to create a piano you can play without touching it. \nLike the old Theremin\, the instrument you create in this session is played without contact. You’ll use the versatile and cheap Raspberry Pi computer\, some simple electronics and the Scratch coding language to build a piano you control by moving your hand in front of the sensor. What’s the best tune you can play your air piano? \nAge 8\, No Upper Limit \nBook your place by clicking here. \nThis time we’ve got a day of different activities planned starting with designing and 3D printing an object with built in electronics. This is followed by a chance to put your computer coding skills to use to craft objects in the virtual world of Minecraft. In the afternoon we’re going to be using a Raspberry Pi computer and simple electronics to make our personalised cardboard cows warn anyone who approaches. To round the day off\, we’re making a piano that we play without touching it. \nIf you’d like to book multiple workshops at a discounted rate please follow this link https://goo.gl/Y1MmBM and complete the form.

SUMMARY:Viking Weave Bracelet Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop you will make your own Viking weave bracelet. This will teach you how to produce a length of Viking weave\, make fittings for the ends as well as a clasp. All tools and materials are included in the price. \nNearly 1\,300 years ago\, Vikings used long pieces of silver and gold wire to weave ropes.  These woven wire ropes were then stretched and made into jewellery. This wire weaving is called Viking weave (or trichinopoly chain). This chain was used as currency where it was cut into lengths. \nPlease book places direct with Holly. \nHolly was born in the New Forest\, Hampshire\, in 1975. Growing up in an area of outstanding natural beauty and also living very close to the south coast\, gave Holly an innate appreciation for organic forms and natural aesthetics\, which is still apparent in her jewellery today. \nHolly began creating jewellery in her early teens and by fifteen she was already selling her jewellery to an enthusiastic base of returning customers. \nAfter leaving school Holly went on to study Art to Degree level. She has also trained in and uses a variety of techniques including: beading\, beating\, wrapping\, Peruvian wire work\, weaving and Viking weave. Holly has also had training as a silversmith. \nMore recently Holly has moved into the production of intricate wire woven flower crowns as well as wire work bonsai tree sculptures. \n  \n

SUMMARY:MAD DOG MCREA + Huw Eddy & The Carnival
DESCRIPTION:Mad Dog Mcrea blend a unique mixture of folk rock\, pop\, gypsy jazz\, bluegrass and ‘shake your ass’ music. From self-penned songs of adventure\, drinking\, love and life\, to traditional songs of gypsies\, fairies\, legless pirates and black flies – Mad Dog never fail to capture their audience with their infectious songs.\nNoble Jacks – rip-roaring Alt-Folk band with roof raising energy and whose warm electro-acoustic interactions fuse together with a mixture of upbeat folky footstompin’ rhythms and engaging lyricism. The band encompasses heartfelt\, yet uptempo songs showcasing fiddle\, blues harmonica and big anthem toplines. \nSupport comes from the fabulous Huw Eddy and The Carnival………. \nIgniting in the cider guzzling southwest and nabbing a bunch of rowdy loud mouth northerners on the way\, ‘Huw Eddy & The Carnival’ was born in Leeds. Pedalling sound waves with a gob stopping core of Indie Folk\, yet generous lashings of Rock and Roll and Americana influences\, they bring you a non-stop hootenanny of jiving splendour that forces you to throw down your drink and just dance. They deliver songs and vocal melodies that will tug at your heartstrings as well as have you chucking your paws in air through pure uninterrupted merriment. \n2017 has been the bands busiest year yet! Following the release of their single ‘Cut me down’\, the carnival has been shuddering the very floor boards of stages from venues to festivals across the UK and Europe showing audiences how to let loose and have a damn good time! \nWith highlights such as FIMU festival\, supporting ‘Slade’ and ‘Will and the people’\, as well as BBC Scotland’s track of the week with their single ‘Fading’ – the carnival is building momentum and now they are announcing the arrival of their pulsating parade to the masses! \n8pm-1am \nTickets £15  \n18+

SUMMARY:Strategic Marketing for Social Enterprise Leaders - EnhanceSE workshop

Commitment\, confidence\, clarity\, communication and an honest ability to understand ourselves are critical elements in a social enterprise leader’s toolkit. \nBetter Leaders = Better Business! workshops are designed to develop those leadership and management skills. The workshops provide a chance to explore your leadership style\, to share challenges and seek solutions to leading staff and volunteers through often choppy waters in a fast-changing environment. They provide a safe space to reflect on your own practise\, and the vision and direction of your organisation. Drawing on examples from social and commercial enterprise\, the workshops will help learners to build their own leadership toolkit\, and thus increase the potential social impact their organisations can create. \nAttendees registered through the Enhance Social Enterprise (Enhance SE) programme can also benefit from business mentoring\, picking up on some of the themes addressed in this and other forthcoming workshops. \nAudience: This workshop will appeal to staff within social enterprises who are\, or aspire to be\, in leadership roles\, whatever the size of the organisation. This may include team leaders\, project leaders\, CEO’s\, but not exclusively. \nCost: This workshop is FREE to social enterprises registered on the #EnhanceSE Social Enterprise ERDF Programme. Registering for the programme entitles eligible social enterprises to access up to 12 hours of support (through workshops and tailored mentoring). This workshop is part of a programme of support available to eligible social enterprises to enable them to grow their skills and expertise\, and in doing so\, grow their social business.

SUMMARY:Social Enterprise - What’s The Vision? EnhanceSE workshop
DESCRIPTION:Social Enterprises exist to make a difference. Having clarity about the vision\, values and ethos that drive your social enterprise is vital for any leader. This workshop will help participants: explore ways to communicate that vision to a range of audiences; explore stakeholder engagement and relationship development; and consider social impact – gathering evidence\, reporting and reviewing on your performance and difference made. It will draw on social enterprise case studies\, best practise and the latest Leadership thinking\, and provide some useful tools and tips for those in leadership roles.\n\n\n\nThis workshop is the second in the Better Leaders = Better Business! Series\, exploring Leadership in Social Enterprise. Book tickets here. \nBetter Leaders = Better Business! \nHaving the necessary business skills to achieve long term sustainability is critical\, but how many of us possess the natural leadership to inspire our team and share a vision of success yet to happen? All eligible attendees will need to complete a short online registration form before or on the day. Please check here to see if you are eligible https://www.heartofswgrowthhub.co.uk/gsp-apply/ and register for #EnhanceSE PRIOR to booking onto the event. When registering online for the #EnhanceSE Programme please ensure\, after the “Are you a social enterprise” question\, that you add in the notes: “Please refer straight through to Enhance Social Enterprise Support – Cosmic”. Thank you. \nNB. Registering for Enhance SE is different to booking for this workshop – you also need to hit the Register button to register for this workshop!

SUMMARY:Dr Syntax & Pete Cannon tour 2018
DESCRIPTION:Dr Syntax (MC) and Pete Cannon (producer/DJ/MC) have been making music and touring together since 2010. They are well renowned for smashing shows all over the UK\, and at festivals such as Boomtown Fair (UK) and Outlook (Croatia). \n  \nBoth reputed solo artists in their own right\, their collaborative releases ‘Killer Combo’\, ‘Elaborate Anoraks’ and ‘The Tonic’ combine witty\, insightful lyricism and gob-smackingly banging beats to great effect. While their sound is rooted in hip hop for the most part\, their riotous live performances showcase their versatility with ventures into bass music\, old skool hardcore and jungle. \n  \nDr Syntax has been a well-known name in the UK Hip Hop scene since he appeared on Foreign Beggars’ ‘Asylum Speakers’ album in 2004. Since then he has released numerous albums including his classic 2007 debut ‘Self Taught’\, and ‘Scene Stealers’\, his 2008 collaboration with Ed Skrein (Deadpool/Game Of Thrones) as Skreintax. More recently\, his name has been synonymous with acclaimed Manchester band The Mouse Outfit. He appeared on their albums ‘Escape Music’ and ‘Step Steadier’\, and has toured with them relentlessly across the UK and Europe since 2012. \n  \nPete Cannon is an incredibly prolific and versatile producer\, having collaborated with Action Bronson\, Guilty Simpson\, Del The Funky Homosapien\, Rizzle Kicks and Lunar C to name a few. He has worked extensively with UK hip hop’s best known label\, High Focus\, notably producing tracks for Dirty Dike\, Jam Baxter and Verb T\, and entirely producing the ‘High Focus Remixes’ album. As versatile and skilled behind the decks as in the studio\, his jungle sets at High Focus events have become the stuff of legend. \n  \nNew Album \n  \nDr Syntax and Pete Cannon are currently working on a new album. Production will be handled entirely by Pete Cannon as usual\, with vocals my Dr Syntax and the following confirmed collaborators: \nHarleighblu \nFox (Levelz/Swing Ting) \nDabbla (High Focus) \nGardna (Boom Sound)

SUMMARY:MARK THOMAS – SHOWTIME FROM THE FRONTLINE
DESCRIPTION:Lakin McCarthy in association with Theatre Royal Stratford East present \n Mark Thomas \nShowtime from the Frontline \nDirected by Joe Douglas \nName the comedian who might say ‘I wonder if I can set up a comedy club… in a refugee camp… in Palestine?’  Of course\, it’s Mark Thomas.  And that is exactly what he tries to do. \nDodging cultural and literal bullets\, Israeli incursions and religion\, Mark and his team set out to run a comedy club and put on two nights in Jenin in the West Bank. Only to find that it is not so simple to celebrate freedom of speech in a place with so little freedom. \nJenin refugee camp\, a stronghold for the al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade during the Second Intifada\, is not a place synonymous with laughs. But it is also home to the Jenin Freedom Theatre and to people with a wealth of stories to tell. \nMark tells this story alongside Faisal Abualheja and Alaa Shehada\, two performers\, actors and now aspiring comics from the Jenin Club. This is a story about being yourself in a place that wants to put you in a box. Funny\, moving and necessary. Mark says\, it’s the nearest he will ever get to Alan Parker’s ‘Fame’. \nMark Thomas – 5th Feb \n7.30 for 8pm start \nTickets on sale in January £15 advance/ £10 concessions \n
