SUMMARY:FREE Creative Writing Taster Session
DESCRIPTION:Do you want to write but don’t know where to start? \nAre you a writer who would like to meet with like-minded people and develop your craft? \nJoin published author\, Alison Rose Knight\, at one of her FREE TASTER SESSIONS at the Red Brick Building as we start a new page in the RBB’s story. \nThe sessions will be based on Alison’s Who? What? Where? When? Workshops\, looking at: \n\nWho will you write about? – Characters real and fictional\nWhat will you write? – novels\, short stories\, flash fiction\, blogs\, poems\, and so on\nWhere will your writing be set? – developing and describing settings\nWhen will your story be set? – writing about different times\, seasons and eras.\n\nThere will be discussions about these topics with examples and a number of short writing exercises throughout the sessions. Participants will be encouraged to join in the discussions and to share their work\, but there will be no obligation to do so – the aim is to spark the imagination\, not to force anyone to do anything that makes them feel uncomfortable. \nAlthough sessions are free\, we are asking people to book a place so that we can prepare the right amount of materials for each workshop. Please email Alison to secure your place. \nWe will also ask for a donation to RBB to help cover room costs. The sessions are open to all ages and abilities. Alison has experience of teaching students from early teens to late seventies. \nEach participant needs to bring a notepad and something to write with\, or a laptop.

SUMMARY:Politics and Protest\, Posters from the Women's Liberation Movement exhibition 1st-11th September
DESCRIPTION:Hatpins to Hashtags brings an exhibition of dynamic posters from the Women’s Liberation Movement (1978-2000) to share with audiences around the South West on from 1st-11th September 2018. \nDrawn from the rich collection of over 1000 posters held by The Feminist Archive South they are testmony to the activist energy of the movement and the determination of women to speak out and organise on their own terms. \nCalling women together to campaign\, learn\, protest and celebrate the posters speak to us now of the burning issues of the time – many of which continue to reverberate today. The posters are inspiring and will also provoke debate: What was achieved? What is still to be done? \nJoins us to discuss these questions during events and debates that will accompany the exhibition exploring\, for example: what is Feminism? Who is a Feminist? Then\, now and into the future. \nThere will be accompanying workshops\, cross generational conversations and panel discussions – look out for the programme for your area that will be posted nearer the time. Local speakers and organisations are invited to bring their concerns and knowledges to the Hatpins to Hashtags table: email feminist.archive40@gmail.com to get involved.

SUMMARY:House of El Throwback Sessions - Old Skool Garage vs Jungle.
DESCRIPTION:House of El returns for its second Throwback Session. On this very special night we are going to be  revisiting one of the most important era’s of UK Dance music. In a one time original soundclash we will be bringing you the sounds of Old Skool Garage vs Jungle. \nThe event will see two special guest DJ’s\, firstly the return of Glastonbury hometown favourite “DJ Fivestack”. Fivestack started mixing in 1993 after falling in love with the underground music scene. He spent years playing on pirate radio\, and eventually ended up running his own station “Buzz Fm”. He spent time playing clubs and raves all over the country\, winning DJ comps and held club residencys all over Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire before moving to Glastonbury in 2006. He tells us that one of his favourite career highlights has to be playing Glastonbury Festival in 2011 to a massive home crowd at the ‘Babylon Uprising’ stage. He is currently helping run the highly successful internet stationGlobaldnb.com with a regular show now every Friday 6-8pm. \nIn addition to Fivestack\, coming all the way from London will be UK Garage veteran “DJ Son”. Spending the mid to late 90’s playing house parties and raves\, DJ Son found himself on Pure FM which he did for 3 years. He has played at the Love Parade in Austria alongside Ed 209\, and has recently been a resident at ‘House your Sundays’ in North West London. DJ Son is a London underground legend\, a classic Garage connoisseur and is looking forward to bringing back the London underground scene for this joyous occasion. \nBook your ticket now!!
