A limited number of entry-only tickets will be available to purchase on the door on Friday evening.* \n  \nThe Red Hot Jazz Club are excited to welcome The Duncan Anslem Quintet to Glastonbury\, playing all the best and well-known tunes by the legendary Charles Mingus. \n  \nCharles Mingus Jr. was an American jazz upright bassist\, pianist\, composer\, bandleader\, and author. A major proponent of collective improvisation\, he is considered to be one of the greatest jazz musicians and composers in history. \nWith a career spanning three decades\, he collaborated with other jazz musicians such as Louis Armstrong\, Duke Ellington\, Charlie Parker\, Dizzy Gillespie\, and Herbie Hancock. \nHis compositions retain the hot and soulful feel of hard bop\, drawing heavily from black gospel music and blues\, while sometimes containing elements of free jazz and classical music. He once cited Duke Ellington and the church as his main influences. \n  \nDuncan Anselm on Alto-sax is a very familiar face in the West and has performed many times in various guises. Joining him tonight\, we are thrilled to have Sam Crockatt\, a well-known name on the Bristol and London Jazz Scene playing Tenor-sax. They will be supported by amazing local players Richard Jenkins on Piano\, Luke Belcher on Bass and Jon Clark on drums. \nTonight we will be enjoying some excellent versions of the very best Mingus tunes\, including the smooth ‘Goodbye Pork Pie Hat‘\, the exultant ‘Better Git It in Your Soul‘ and the up-beat ‘The Jumpin’ Blues‘. \nPlus\, there’s the option to enjoy a delicious dinner from The Old Tannery while you watch the show. \nCome down to the Jazz Club\, pre-order some Jazz supper from The Old Tannery and join us for a sumptuous night of Mingus moves. \n  \nFeaturing: \nDuncan Anselm – Alto Sax \nSam Crockatt – Tenor Sax \nRichard Jenkins – Piano \nLuke Belcher – Bass \nJohn Clark – Drums \n  \nFriday 26th May \nDoors: 7.30pm \nStart: 8pm \n  \nTickets \nEntry: £10 advance (£12 on the door) \nVegetable Curry with Rice*: £9.50 (advance booking only) \nChicken Curry with Rice*: £9.50 (advance booking only) \n*For special dietary requirements\, please contact The Old Tannery restaurant on theoldtanneryglastonbury@outlook.com or 01458 440558. \nPlease note food options are subject to change. \n  \nFor more information about this event\, please contact theredhotjazzclub@gmail.com \n  \n18’s and over only \nPlease note\, tickets are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled

SUMMARY:'Here Forever': Local Industrial Heritage Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:‘Here Forever’\nLocal Industrial Heritage Exhibition\n  \nAn exhibition celebrating work\, community and change at Morlands and Baily’s \n  \nOpening Dates & Times: \nFriday 9th June: 10am – 5pm \nSaturday 10th June: 10am – 5pm \nSunday 11th June: 10am – 4pm \nEntry is free \n  \nDid you know the Red Brick Building used to be a sheepskin factory known as Morlands? \nRenowned for quality\, their flying jackets and sheepskin boots were made for RAF pilots who fought in the Battle of Britain! \n  \nThe Red Brick Building is delighted to be hosting an exhibition focusing on the town’s industrial heritage\, celebrating the experiences of people who worked at Morlands and Baily’s. This is one part of a larger project based at the Red Brick Building\, funded by Historic England\, which is researching and sharing material linked to our “Everyday Heritage”. \nAt the heart of the exhibition are the voices of local people who have been interviewed and recorded talking about their memories of their roles at the two companies\, both of which employed huge numbers of people across the area in all aspects of the sheepskin processing and manufacturing industry. \nVisitors will be able to listen to recordings of these voices as well as looking at the many photographs\, press cuttings and documents linked to the companies. These all testify to the significance of the sheepskin industry and the importance of skilled craftsmanship on a local\, regional and international scale. There will also be a range of vintage artefacts produced at the factories and loaned by local people – seeing sheepskin coats and boots in an exhibition might make you appreciate them in a fresh way! \nProject co-ordinator Alison Horgan says “It is the culmination of a lot of research and many fascinating conversations with people of Glastonbury\, Wells\, Street and beyond. There is such a rich history in the area and we are really pleased to be able to bring this together and share it with the community.” Visitors will discover the gruesome details of jobs such as ‘rounding’ and the physically exhausting work which went into treating the skins. They will also hear of the camaraderie among workers and how the companies provided for their workers with sports clubs\, Christmas parties\, inter-factory skittles contests and a long-running works magazine. \nThe project has been supported by a dedicated team of volunteers\, Strode College and local youth groups have also played their parts in making the plans come to life. We hope you will enjoy a look back in time and also learn about the journey of the Red Brick Building from Industry to social enterprise and what the future holds for these important buildings. \n  \nFor more information about this exhibition\, please email heritage@redbrickbuilding.co.uk \n

SUMMARY:POSTPONED: New Surroundings: Immersive 3D Soundscapes & Music
DESCRIPTION:POSTPONED: New Surroundings\n  \n— \nWe regret that\, due to unforeseen circumstances\, this event has been postponed until further notice. We apologise for any disappointment caused. \nEveryone who purchased tickets via our website has been contacted with details of a refund. \nMany thanks for your understanding. \n— \n  \nAn evening of immersive 3D soundscapes and music \nIncluding another chance to experience Coleridge’s epic poem ‘The Rime of the Ancient Mariner’ in spectacular surround sound! \n  \nSound artist Steve Marshall returns to the Red Brick Building to preview some of his recent soundscapes and musical works in progress\, all in glorious three-dimensional surround sound! \nSteve will be presenting tracks from his current Spirit of Place project: music inspired by St Nectan’s Glen\, Calanais\, Avebury and other special places. \nThere will be a 15 minute interval\, followed by another opportunity to hear The Rime of the Ancient Mariner\, Steve’s rendering of Coleridge’s epic poem as an immersive surround sound experience. This ultra-immersive experience places the listener onboard the Mariner’s creaking ship\, surrounded by the ocean and elements. From all around\, and above\, come the eery sounds of ghosts\, angels\, zombies\, St. Elmo’s Fire – and the doomed albatross. Last year’s performance of this at the Red Brick Building sold out quickly\, so be sure to book tickets early to avoid disappointment. \n  \nSaturday 16th September \n8pm – 10pm \n(Doors: 7.30pm) \n  \nTickets \n£10 advance (plus booking fee) \n£12 on the door \n  \nMore info: www.stevemars.org \n  \nPlease note\, tickets are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled

SUMMARY:Rehearsed Reading: "84\, Charing Cross Road"
DESCRIPTION:A Special Rehearsed Reading of\n“84\, Charing Cross Road”\nBy Helene Hanff\, adapted for the stage by James Roose-Evans \n  \nA heartwarming and true exchange of letters\, read and performed by Street Theatre Company. All profits will go to Cancer Research UK. \n  \nIn 1949 a struggling American writer\, Helene Hanff\, hoping to indulge her love of beautiful books of literature\, begins a correspondence with a firm of British antiquarian booksellers\, and in particular\, one Mr Frank Doel. Their exchange of letters lasts for 20 years with Frank’s co-workers and family also joining in the correspondence in response to her generous gifts. \nThe sharp\, witty but affectionate American writer\, slowly thaws the staid British business man and although they never meet\, their shared love of books and literature\, spans the years and the miles and a warm friendship endures. \n  \nThis is a charity event for Cancer Research UK and kindly sponsored by Earthfare\, Glastonbury. \nThis amateur production is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. www.concordtheatricals.co.uk \n  \nTuesday 19th September \n7.30pm – 10pm \n  \nTickets \n£7.00 advance\, available here: www.eventbrite.co.uk \n

SUMMARY:Nahko
DESCRIPTION:Nahko\nPlus Support from River Roots\n  \nN.B. Advance ticket sales will stop at 4pm on Friday. Additional tickets will be available to purchase on the door from 7.30pm on Friday. \n  \nBorn to a Puerto Rican/Native American mother and a Filipino father\, Nahko was adopted and raised in the suburbs of Portland\, Oregon. Beginning his musical journey at 6 years old\, Nahko began traveling widely in his teens\, wrestling with identity\, purpose\, and perception. \nBusking on streets\, selling CDs out of his guitar case\, he earned a cult following. Backed by his band\, Medicine For The People\, Nahko’s 2013 commercial breakout album Dark As Night landed in the Billboard Heatseekers Chart top 10. Medicine For The People played major festivals including Outside Lands\, Electric Forest\, Wanderlust\, and Bumbershoot\, and sold-out Colorado’s 10\,000-capacity Red Rocks Amphitheatre as headliners. \nIn 2020\, Nahko walked away from the corporate music industry\, vanishing into rural Oregon to work intensely on himself and his relationship with the world. He returns with a record rich in the core qualities that have defined his career and delighted fans for over a decade – socially-conscious\, super-positive folk and rock flecked with soulful alt-R&B\, reggae\, and gospel – now embroidered with a nuanced defiance of “cancel culture”\, wide-eyed re-appreciation of himself\, and a trademark stylistic eclecticism expanded into hip-hop\, pop\, trap\, and more. \nOn seventh album\, TRENCHES\, Nahko Bear channels three years of soul-searching personal revolution into sound. The record reflects more than a thousand days of open-hearted self-excavation\, avid learning/unlearning\, and radical internal re-calibration. \n“All of us have been through so much in the last three years\,” mulled Nahko. “The messages on this album will really resonate with people who’ve been through the trenches of this pandemic and whatever they’ve lost and whatever they’ve gained. TRENCHES has something for everybody. A range of emotions from anger to accountability and redemption; sorrow and mourning to soaring joy; forgiveness to rejoicing.” \n  \nPlus\, support from River Roots: River Roots create a vibrant mix of roots and alternative acoustic\, with hints of folk and reggae beats\, bringing diverse sounds and a playful uplifting vibe. Conscious\, mind opening music delivered from the heart. Fusion of their soulful male/female harmonies and good vibes illuminates the stage. The music is majorly influenced by a nomadic lifestyle and connecting with nature\, with an uplifting message. \n  \nFriday 22nd September \n7.30pm (doors) until late \n  \nTickets \n£25 advance \n  \n18’s and over only \nPlease note\, tickets are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled
