SUMMARY:Heritage Connector Training
DESCRIPTION:Heritage Connector Training\n  \nHeritage is all around us and belongs to all of us\, wherever we live\, whatever we do and whoever we are. Heritage incorporates historic buildings\, archaeological sites\, culture and nature. It is woven from all our stories and memories\, and it is constantly changing and evolving. \nOur experience of heritage is closely connected with our sense of wellbeing. For example\, taking part in local heritage walks helps people to connect with others\, be active and feel inspired about the place they live in – as they stop to admire important buildings\, vibrant street art\, or trees that have held local significance over hundreds of years. \nIf you would like to explore the links between heritage and wellbeing\, why not train to become a ‘Heritage Connector’. The session will be jointly hosted by Health Connections West Mendip and the Bishop’s Palace & Gardens. \nHeritage Connectors can inspire people to engage more with local heritage and its wellbeing benefits\, through informal conversations and simple signposting. \nThose attending the training session will have the opportunity to connect with others who are passionate about our local heritage – which includes sites like Glastonbury Abbey\, the Tor\, the Bishop’s Palace\, Wells Cathedral\, Morlands’ and Clarks’ industrial history\, the Glastonbury Mural Trail\, the Avalon Marshes\, the Mendips AONB\, local natural springs – and much more. \nHeritage Connectors will also have the opportunity to take part in special events. This includes a private view at Wells Cathedral of the book A New Herball\, by William Turner\, a former Dean at the Cathedral\, published 1568. The book is not currently on public display. It is the earliest plant book written in English and is illustrated with woodcuts which help explain the appearance\, habitat and medicinal use of plants. \n  \nWednesday 20th November \n10am – 12pm \nFREE \n  \nFor more info and to book: \nBook your free place here: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/heritage-connector-training-west-mendip-tickets-1075926548269 \nFor more details\, please contact Fen Bagias on 07538 546139 \n

SUMMARY:Faris Ishaq x BEJE
DESCRIPTION:Big Bromo Promotions presents: \nBEJE / British European Jazz Ensemble\nFaris Ishaq x BEJE\n  \nA solidarity concert for Palestine \nA masterful meld of Palestinian folk music and spine-tingling jazz \n  \nMesmerising contemporary and ‘cosmic’ jazz\, channelling the ecstatic spirit of 1960’s saxophone visionary John Coltrane\, and here deeply infused with Palestinian melodies and rhythms. Acclaimed nay reed-flute master Faris Ishaq is given punchy\, characterful support by global-jazz ensemble BEJE on spine-tingling music ranging from meditative atmospherics to primal improvisation: by turns profoundly beautiful\, frantically urgent\, joyfully strange\, and yieldingly delicate. \n  \nBEJE’s distinctive and energetic contemporary jazz performances are always about collaboration\, whether with other players or other cultures. A unique world music-tinged jazz ensemble\, its line-up of different sensibilities and skills from all over the continent\, its widespread influences\, and its union of eclectic styles manifests in powerful creations of improvisation and composition alike. It acknowledges no boundaries\, is relentless in its exploration of innovative ingredients for sonic fusion\, and embraces humanity by mirroring diversity in its music. \nThis Autumn\, BEJE tours ‘Siblings Not Fools’\, a celebration of the creative energy and unity possible when cultures meet through the medium of music\, and a testament to Martin Luther King Jr.’s 1964 declaration: ‘live together as brothers or perish together as fools’. This series of collective collaborations with international artists from Korea\, Palestine\, Italy\, and Wales\, is presented (and recorded live for an anthology album to be released in the new year) primarily at grassroots and non-traditional venues\, and is supported by skills/experience development workshops. \n“A vibrant contemporary Jazz augment for international cultural exchange.” – Venue Magazine \n“Musically gifted… Creative and technically excellent musicians.” – Black Mountain Jazz \n  \n  \nFriday 29th November \n8pm – 10.30pm \n(Doors\, 7.30pm) \n  \nTickets \nAdvance tickets will be available here: www.ticketsource.co.uk/BEJE \n

SUMMARY:Huey Morgan's New York City Block Party
DESCRIPTION:The Red Brick Building and F-10 present \nHuey Morgan’s New York City Block Party\n  \nOnline ticket sales have now stopped. Further tickets will be available to purchase on the door from 8pm tonight. \n  \nRadio 6\, Radio 2 and former Fun Lovin’ Criminals front man Huey Morgan brings the sound of NYC to your ‘hood. \nPlus support from DJ Wayne Sealey (ex Nightmares On Wax tour DJ) \n  \nHuey’s NYC Block Party is coming to Glastonbury! The musical equivalent of the cosmic Big Bang; disco\, hip hop and funk collided in an almighty collision in late 70’s New York\, with call and response choruses sat astride Get Down breaks and fast’n’furious hip hop mixing. It was a truly magical moment\, and one that Huey captures perfectly with his funk-loving NYC Block Party. \nThe former front man of Fun Lovin’ Criminals and a hugely respected BBC 6 Music DJ\, Huey has perfected the sound over decades as an in-demand DJ and musician. As a music obsessive growing up in the Lower East Side of New York\, he lived and breathed the sound and the fashion of the times\, making him the perfect host for the NYC Block Party. \nFrom Chic to Donna Summer and Kool and the Gang\, to James Brown via Grandmaster Flash and The Jackson 5\, and more recent flavours like Jurassic 5\, Cypress Hill and Michael Kiwanuka\, Huey’s NYC Block Party is the sound of funk\, soul\, disco and hip hop jams battling it out on the dancefloor. A riotous celebration of the Good Times. As The Sugar Hill Gang might have said: ‘Huey will make you throw your hands up in the air like you just don’t care.’ \n  \nFriday 20th December \n8pm – late \n  \nTickets \n£25 \n  \n18’s and over only \nPlease note\, tickets are non-refundable (unless the event is cancelled)

SUMMARY:Ecstatic Dance with Cacao: The Four Elements + Live Music
DESCRIPTION:Ecstatic Dance with Cacao: The Four Elements + Live Music\nWith Just BE Sound & Movement Therapy  \n  \nJoin Alison from Just BE Sound and Movement Therapy and David\, Nomadic Therapist for this Ecstatic Dance Journey with Cacao – The Four Elements\, with live didgeridoo\, hand pan\, shruti and vocals. \n  \nEnter the space in sacred silence from 7.20pm and join us in meditation. \nAt 7.30pm\, sitting in circle\, you’ll be guided through a short centring practice\, with an invitation to scan the body\, emotions and mind. This practice is an oppportunity to bring more presence to your experience and to connect more deeply with your self and your heart. \nAs we move into our cacao ceremony\, we pass our Guatemalan cacao around the circle with love\, before practicing gratitude and setting intentions together. \nWe’ll begin our movement journey together with a little guidance to warm up. The invitation is to disconnect the mind and connect with the body freely\, without self-judgement or fearing judgement from others. Movement is conscious\, intuitive and spontaneous as you allow the vibrations of the sound to resonate in whichever way feels right for you. Each dance journey is different\, with the music an eclectic mix of different genres. You’ll be invited to be curious with your exploration of your body and movements\, to bring moment by moment awareness to what’s moving through you. \nThe evening will close with a sound bath with didgeridoo\, handpan\, shruti and vocals\, a short closing circle with fruit\, and some optional time to socialise. \nThis is an over 16’s\, safe\, respectfully alcohol and drug free environment.
