SUMMARY:Huey Morgan's New York City Block Party
DESCRIPTION:The Red Brick Building and F-10 present \nHuey Morgan’s New York City Block Party\n  \nOnline ticket sales have now stopped. Further tickets will be available to purchase on the door from 8pm tonight. \n  \nRadio 6\, Radio 2 and former Fun Lovin’ Criminals front man Huey Morgan brings the sound of NYC to your ‘hood. \nPlus support from DJ Wayne Sealey (ex Nightmares On Wax tour DJ) \n  \nHuey’s NYC Block Party is coming to Glastonbury! The musical equivalent of the cosmic Big Bang; disco\, hip hop and funk collided in an almighty collision in late 70’s New York\, with call and response choruses sat astride Get Down breaks and fast’n’furious hip hop mixing. It was a truly magical moment\, and one that Huey captures perfectly with his funk-loving NYC Block Party. \nThe former front man of Fun Lovin’ Criminals and a hugely respected BBC 6 Music DJ\, Huey has perfected the sound over decades as an in-demand DJ and musician. As a music obsessive growing up in the Lower East Side of New York\, he lived and breathed the sound and the fashion of the times\, making him the perfect host for the NYC Block Party. \nFrom Chic to Donna Summer and Kool and the Gang\, to James Brown via Grandmaster Flash and The Jackson 5\, and more recent flavours like Jurassic 5\, Cypress Hill and Michael Kiwanuka\, Huey’s NYC Block Party is the sound of funk\, soul\, disco and hip hop jams battling it out on the dancefloor. A riotous celebration of the Good Times. As The Sugar Hill Gang might have said: ‘Huey will make you throw your hands up in the air like you just don’t care.’ \n  \nFriday 20th December \n8pm – late \n  \nTickets \n£25 \n  \n18’s and over only \nPlease note\, tickets are non-refundable (unless the event is cancelled)

SUMMARY:Faris Ishaq x BEJE
DESCRIPTION:Big Bromo Promotions presents: \nBEJE / British European Jazz Ensemble\nFaris Ishaq x BEJE\n  \nA solidarity concert for Palestine \nA masterful meld of Palestinian folk music and spine-tingling jazz \n  \nMesmerising contemporary and ‘cosmic’ jazz\, channelling the ecstatic spirit of 1960’s saxophone visionary John Coltrane\, and here deeply infused with Palestinian melodies and rhythms. Acclaimed nay reed-flute master Faris Ishaq is given punchy\, characterful support by global-jazz ensemble BEJE on spine-tingling music ranging from meditative atmospherics to primal improvisation: by turns profoundly beautiful\, frantically urgent\, joyfully strange\, and yieldingly delicate. \n  \nBEJE’s distinctive and energetic contemporary jazz performances are always about collaboration\, whether with other players or other cultures. A unique world music-tinged jazz ensemble\, its line-up of different sensibilities and skills from all over the continent\, its widespread influences\, and its union of eclectic styles manifests in powerful creations of improvisation and composition alike. It acknowledges no boundaries\, is relentless in its exploration of innovative ingredients for sonic fusion\, and embraces humanity by mirroring diversity in its music. \nThis Autumn\, BEJE tours ‘Siblings Not Fools’\, a celebration of the creative energy and unity possible when cultures meet through the medium of music\, and a testament to Martin Luther King Jr.’s 1964 declaration: ‘live together as brothers or perish together as fools’. This series of collective collaborations with international artists from Korea\, Palestine\, Italy\, and Wales\, is presented (and recorded live for an anthology album to be released in the new year) primarily at grassroots and non-traditional venues\, and is supported by skills/experience development workshops. \n“A vibrant contemporary Jazz augment for international cultural exchange.” – Venue Magazine \n“Musically gifted… Creative and technically excellent musicians.” – Black Mountain Jazz \n  \n  \nFriday 29th November \n8pm – 10.30pm \n(Doors\, 7.30pm) \n  \nTickets \nAdvance tickets will be available here: www.ticketsource.co.uk/BEJE \n

Additional tickets will be available on the door from 8pm. \n— \n  \nA national treasure\, celebrating his 5\,000th gig! \n  \nRock veteran John Otway is an English singer-songwriter who has built a sizeable cult audience through extensive touring\, a surreal sense of humour and a self-deprecating underdog persona. \nOtway dubbed himself “rock’n’roll’s greatest failure” after many unsuccessful attempts to produce a second hit single to follow his 1977 classic ‘(Cor Baby\, That’s) Really Free’ with Wild Willy Barrett. \nHowever\, a mere quarter century later\, he was back on Top of The Pops with the wonderful disco pastiche\, ‘Bunsen Burner’ and back in the charts as a birthday present from his adoring and patient fans. \nExpect madcap mayhem and some scintillating stunts from a man old enough to know better … and also to be surprised at just what a showman and musician really lies underneath the tomfoolery. \n  \n“A brilliant ability to inspire”  – THE GUARDIAN \n“Brilliant observationally … part of me just wants to stand up and applaud”  – STEVE LAMACQ \n“The audience were in fits of hysteria”  – SALISBURY JOURNAL \n  \nN.B. This performance will be taking place in The Old Tannery restaurant\, due to our Event Space currently being temporarily closed. \n  \n  \nFriday 20th September \n8pm – 10.30pm \n  \nTickets \n£16 advance \n£18 on the door \n  \n18’s and over only \nPlease note\, tickets are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled

SUMMARY:'FleeceFest' Free Mini Festival
DESCRIPTION:‘FleeceFest’ Free Mini Festival\n  \nCome join us for an afternoon of live music\, craft\, art\, food and drink and find out something new about the history of Glastonbury. \n  \nA brand new\, free mini festival aimed at young people is coming to the Red Brick Building in September! It promises a day full of creativity\, live music and local food. And\, what’s more\, the whole event has been organised by a fantastic team of young people. \nThe festival is part of a national project called New Wave\, which encourages young people to get involved in heritage-related activities. It coincides with the national Heritage Open Days festival organised each year\, which celebrates the rich history and heritage of communities across the UK. \nFleeceFest is a one-day mini festival with live music\, craft\, food\, and mural painting. It’s completely free to attend and\, while it’s aimed at young people\, all ages are welcome and there will be plenty for everyone to do. \nOne of the highlights will be painting a mural that celebrates and encapsulates the history of the Red Brick Building’s industrial past as a former sheepskin factory. The mural was sketched out in July by a group of young people\, helped by local artist Jon Minshull. The design uses images from Morlands Magazines as well as quotes from some of the stories of people who worked in the factories\, to tell the story of change at the Red Brick Building site. You’ll see the iconic Morlands gates\, sheep\, shoes\, chimneys and lots of people working busily. The mural will be painted in full colour during FleeceFest\, so do come along and join in if you like to get creative! \nYou’ll notice that there’s something sheepy about this event too\, with the chance to get creative with sheepskin crafts led by local textile expert Liana. Plus\, enjoy live music from local musicians\, including the premiere of new songs inspired by the stories of workers from the historic Morlands and Baily’s factories. \nThe name FleeceFest is a nod to the Red Brick Building’s past as part of the Morlands sheepskin factory\, a key player in Glastonbury’s economic and social history during the 20th century. The event will honour this heritage\, particularly the craftsmanship and memories of those who worked in the sheepskin industry. \nThis will be a relaxed afternoon for anyone who is inquisitive\, creative or who would just like to discover a new place in the community. Our fantastic team of young people have been working hard to create and organise this mini festival\, and we can’t wait to see it in action. Pop along\, bring a mate\, and enjoy a creative day for all the family! \n  \nThis event is being held in our Community Garden. All are welcome. \n  \nSaturday 14th September \n11am – 4pm \nFREE ENTRY \n  \nTickets: Booking is not compulsory\, but it helps us to estimate how many people will be attending. Please book a free ticket (below) if you can\, to help give us an idea of numbers. \n

DESCRIPTION:The Pad Presents \nThe Bluetones (Acoustic)\n+ Enjoyable Listens\n  \nThe Bluetones frontman Mark Morriss and his partner in crime Adam Devlin are taking their ‘Bluetones Acoustic’ show back out on the road in spring ’24 and will be making a ‘Slight Return’ to the Red Brick Building. \nThe band\, formed in 1993\, had an impressive run of hit singles throughout the late 90’s/early 00’s\, including ’Bluetonic’\, ‘Slight Return’\, ‘Marblehead Johnson’\, ‘Solomon Bites The Worm’\, ‘If’ and ‘Keep the Fires Burning’. Additional entry-only tickets will be available to purchase on the door from 7.30pm on Friday.* \n  \nAfro-Cuban and Latin Jazz Night \n  \nWelcome back to The Red Hot Jazz Club! \nOur first show in 2024 is the brilliant Jim Blomfield-Michel Padrón Quintet\, bringing us a fantastic night of Afro-Cuban rhythms and Latin Jazz classics that won’t fail to make you move and dance. \nJoin us in our low-lit Jazz Club\, book a table and maybe order the Jazz-Dinner from the Old Tannery (always delicious!) and experience a night of excellent live Latin-Jazz from an amazing band of top musicians. \n  \nIt was only a matter of time before Cuban trumpeter and trombonist Michel Padrón crossed paths with ‘gringo’ Jim Blomfield… This band is the result of two brilliant exponents of the Afro-Cuban and Salsa genres bringing together some of their favourite musicians to play a dynamic set of sparkling Latin Jazz originals and covers. \nMichel and Jim have regularly appeared together in many influential Bristol Latin Jazz and Salsa bands including Baila La Cumbia\, Dockside Latin Orchestra\, Saoco Collective and Bristol Salsa Orchestra (Michel being musical director and arranger for the latter two). \n  \nHavanan born Michel has toured extensively in Europe and the USA. He is the leader and musical director of Asere\, a Latin band with a career spanning over two decades and one that has included collaborations with such musical legends as Billy Cobham\, Cesaria Evora and Toto la Momposina. \nA very versatile piano/keyboard player\, Jim is one of the mainstays of both Bristol’s vibrant jazz and latin scene. He has backed countless big name guest soloists and released several albums of his own music which blend jazz with latin\, rock\, electronica and contemporary music influences. Well known as one of the UK’s finest salsa and Latin jazz pianists\, he appears in numerous ensembles and has worked with such Latin legends as Asere and Roberto Pla. \nThe band is completed by the exciting and dynamic rhythm team of Jon Clark (drums)\, Jason Gaines (congas)\, and Roshan ‘Tosh’ Wijetunge (bass). \n  \nFriday 1st March \nDoors: 7.30pm \nStart: 8pm \n  \nTickets \nEntry: £12 advance / £15 on the door \nArroz con Calabaza (Spicy Squash with Rice and Beans)*: £9.50 (advance booking only) \nArroz con Pollo (Spicy Chicken with Rice and Beans)*: £9.50 (advance booking only) \n*For special dietary requirements\, please contact The Old Tannery restaurant on theoldtanneryglastonbury@outlook.com or 01458 440558. \nPlease note food options are subject to change. \n  \nFor more information about this event\, please contact theredhotjazzclub@gmail.com \n  \n18’s and over only \nPlease note\, tickets are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled
