SUMMARY:Sarah Wilkinson: Maajabu
DESCRIPTION:Sarah Wilkinson\nArt/Textile Exhibition \n  \nSarah is an emerging textile designer\, whose work has an innovative and distinctive style and approach to both painting and design. Sarah studied Textile Design for Fashion and Interiors at Bath Spa University. With a passion for colour and print\, she specialises in large scale\, hand painted wall and floor art with an ability to adapt her skills between painting and textiles utilising her bold designs in a variety of textile processes. \n  \nThis exhibition showcases Sarah’s revival of 18th century oil cloth techniques\, hand painting on canvass with a modern twist on an old method. Sarah takes her inspiration predominantly from human and animal forms\, or intricate details from nature; translating them into stylised paintings that are rich in colour\, with a playful composition and narrative. \n  \nSarah works from her studio in Bristol\, designing for her own brand and working on freelance projects such as the recent SS19 collection with Circleline design studio in London. Sarah’s work was featured at premier vision 2019 as part of the main fabric forums. \n  \nSarah offers bespoke commissions for high end\, one-off pieces. These statement pieces bring individuality and design flair to homes and offices. \n  \nSarah’s exhibition Maajabu runs at the Red Brick Building from Wednesday 9th October – Saturday 30th November. \nOpen daily\, 10am – 5pm

SUMMARY:Silent Voices
DESCRIPTION:Youth and children are the ones who suffer the most in conflicts and under occupation. They are also the ones who will hold the future of Palestine and Israel in their hands\, the ones we pray will grow up with peace and prosperity. \nChildren in the West Bank village of Bil’in worked under the guidance of Liverpool photographer\, Elaine Stapleton\, to produce an eloquent and moving set of A2 sized photos depicting everyday life in a Palestinian village living under military occupation. \nThe exhibition was commissioned by Liverpool Friends of Bil’in\, who work to end the human rights violations suffered by the people of Bil’in and who support the village by making links of friendship and solidarity. \nThe results can be seen in this travelling exhibition of  photographs which has hung in churches and cathedrals\,  schools\, colleges and universities\, cafes and theatres\, and in art and community centres throughout the country and we are proud to have here in the Events Space at the Red Brick Building.

SUMMARY:Cabbage to Clover by Coo Geller
DESCRIPTION:I am an artist and printmaker living and working in Bristol. \nMy work is about nature. I am drawn to something\, perhaps a plant or a vegetable\, and I may notice a tiny aspect of it that I find fascinating. I record this and communicate its special\, unnoticed qualities. \nBristol Clover Prints \nI live near Stoke Park and from my walks I have become interested in the clover growing around and about. I have been taking their photographs and working with them directly to make images of the green three-\, or sometimes four or five- leaf clovers of many shapes\, sizes\, patterns and shades of green\, and their corresponding flowers of pink or white. \nI have found four leaf clovers amongst them\, but I think we are lucky to have them all. \nMy clover series is printed as giclee prints – this is a fine art digital printing process combining pigment-based inks with high quality archival paper. \nCabbage to snail\, snail to bird \nA recurring theme in my work is that of metamorphosis – cabbages to snails\, snails to birds. These images represent my fascination with the idea of the life cycle in which organic matter\, in passing from past to present\, carries with it\, yet totally transforms\, its own physical nature. It is about an ever-changing\, interlocking continuum – the natural world to which I\, too\, belong. \nOrange Peel \nI am forever amazed by the beauty of the foods we eat and that surround us in our everyday lives. Working with orange peel\, I scraped and pressed their skins\, and this formed the basis of my orange peel series of prints and laser cut pieces. \nI want to bring the sense of wonderment to my work that I feel for everyday \nthings – a parsnip\, a patch of moss\, the peel of an orange … I give value to each little thing and show its importance in the world. \nFor further information about my work please contact me. \n

SUMMARY:Carrie Pooler & Volker Mersch
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 27th July to Monday 18th September 2017. Daily 9am-5pm. \nCarrie Pooler is a Bristol artist working in acrylics\, collage and printing. \nCarrie spent her early years in the Middle East\, moving back to the UK at the age of seven.  Carrie moved to Bristol in 1982\, and has stayed ever since.  After leaving a long career in housing\, regeneration and partnerships\, she has been focussing on her art for the past 9 years. \nMuch of her art is influenced by her love of the Middle East\, of music and of the vibrant city and landscapes in the beautiful West Country.  Her paintings and collages often feature abstract and semi-abstract Bristol and West Country scenes\, her guitar and various Arabic jugs. \nCarrie is continuing to explore colour\, shape\, texture and different perspectives\, often using a West Country or Middle Eastern palette.  Her work continues to experiment with texture and the overlaying of different perspectives to give a cubist feel. \nCarrie’s work includes paintings\, collages and prints (lino\, collagraph\, screen prints). \nCards and giclee prints are also available of some of her work. Art work and cards will be for sale throughout this exhibition. \nClick here to find out more. \nVolker Mersch from Germany presents a variety of local landscapes. Additional work also displayed from his travels.
