DESCRIPTION:Ecstatic Dance Journey & Cacao: The Four Elements + Live Music\nWith Just BE Sound & Movement Therapy  \n  \nAlison from Just BE Sound and Movement Therapy/Ecstatic Dance Berkshire and David\, Nomadic Therapist are back with another Ecstatic Dance Journey with Cacao & a Sound Bath – The Four Elements\, with live didgeridoo\, hand pan\, shruti and vocals! \n  \nEnter the space in sacred silence from 7.20pm and join us in meditation. \nAt 7.30pm\, sitting in circle\, you’ll be guided through a short centring practice\, with an invitation to scan the body\, emotions and mind. This practice is an opportunity to bring more presence to your experience and to connect more deeply with your self and your heart. \nAs we move into our cacao ceremony\, we pass our Guatemalan cacao around the circle with love\, before practicing gratitude and setting intentions together. \nWe’ll begin our movement journey together with a little guidance to warm up. The invitation is to disconnect the mind and connect with the body freely\, without self-judgement or fearing judgement from others. Movement is conscious\, intuitive and spontaneous as you allow the vibrations of the sound to resonate in whichever way feels right for you. Each dance journey is different\, with the music an eclectic mix of different genres. You’ll be invited to be curious with your exploration of your body and movements\, to bring moment by moment awareness to what’s moving through you. \nThe evening will close with a sound bath with didgeridoo\, handpan\, shruti and vocals\, a short closing circle with fruit\, and some optional time to socialise. \nThis is an over 16’s\, safe\, respectfully alcohol and drug free environment. Bring your dance shoes and get ready to move! \n  \nMendip Friends of Palestine presents an evening of dance from Dabke to DJ! \nWe will begin with a participatory dance session of Dabke\, the traditional Palestinian Dance led by a highly talented Palestinian Dance Duo. Then DJ Ni-ku will treat us to a truly memorable set of modern Palestinian dance music emanating from the occupied Palestinian territories and from the Palestinian diaspora. The musical influences from the wider Middle East and the world beyond\, fused with the Palestinian music of resistance\, creates a unique and exciting sound tinged with the sadness\, love and longing of a dispossessed people. \nNik Rawlings is a composer and sound artist originally from Glastonbury who has DJ’d in Egypt\, Switzerland\, Germany\, Poland and the UK. As a member of the Bristol Artists for Palestine group\, Nik campaigned successfully for artistic freedom of expression on Palestine and in support of the Bristol Palestine Film Festival\, following its cancellation by Bristol’s Arnolfini. With her band La Cubana\, Milly will be playing her signature songs alongside tunes from her latest album. \n  \nMilly has been a musical director and pianist with Cuban Salsa and Latin bands in Havana since 2006. She has collaborated with other well-known Cuban Musicians\, like Nicolas Sirgado and Mayito Ribera; pillars of the popular Cuban and Latin jazz in Cuba. \nShe is a passionate musician and has performed extensively as a solo pianist/singer\, and with her Latin band La Cubana in London and internationally. \n  \nMilly will be joined tonight by the fantastic La Cubana Band. Open level. \n11am – 1pm: Flamenco Taster – Garrotin with Fulya\nAn introduction to Flamenco via the palo of Garrotin\, which is in the 4/4 time signature – which makes it a good place for beginners in flamenco dance to start. This palo is unusual as it is not from Andalusia; the home of flamenco in the south. We’ll pop over to Paris and Josephine Baker in the 1920s & 30s and back to Egypt’s Samia Gamal 1940s & 50s\, Nagwa Fouad 1960s & 70s\, Fifi Abdou 1970s onwards and Dina today’s reigning Queen of Cairo hearts! Come and join us all afternoon or dip in and out. \nEVENT SCHEDULE: \n12:00 – 12:45 – Music by David Lunas \n13:00 -13:45 – Music by Oska Zaky \n13:45- 14:45 – Steel Pan workshop led by Kellie Simpson \n14:45 – 15:15 – ‘Black Identity in the Arts’ Preview by Joanna Cobb \nThis lecture will act as an introduction to this vast\, culturally rich and yet often overlooked subject. The session aims to provide a broad chronological and geographical sweep from the Roman emperor Septimius Severus to Black Panther in the 21st century\, and across all continents. We will consider the identity of people of colour as both subject and artist in a range of media\, including painting\, drawing\, print\, textiles\, sculpture\, photography\, the decorative arts\, street art\, film and music. Particular attention will be paid to the social\, cultural and political contexts within which such imagery was conceived and created\, as well as its function and audiences both contemporary and subsequent. Examples featured will include artworks from the vibrant multi-racial environment that was the Roman Empire\, medieval Europe\, Tudor England\, 18th-century Australasia\, 19th-century India\, pre-colonial Africa and 20th-century America. Our discussion of the visual arts will be complemented by the extensive use of written sources and musical extracts. Artists will include John White\, William Hodges\, J.M.W.Turner\, Edmonia Lewis\, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Yinka Shonibare. Topics addressed in this lecture will include exploration and encounter\, abolitionism\, imperialism\, colonialism\, civil rights and the Harlem Renaissance. \nThe full lecture of ‘Black Identity in Art’ will be held at the Red Brick Building\, Glastonbury on Tuesday 15th October between 2 and 4pm. \n15:15 – 17:15 – REMEMBERING WINDRUSH a live music review featuring renowned British based Caribbean and jazz musicians.State of Trust brings outstanding musicians to Glastonbury on October 12th as part of Somerset Multicultural Association’s family fun day\, performing Caribbean\, Soul and Jazz music as part of a tribute to the Windrush Generation. \nThe band features:\nAlan Weekes on guitar – Alan has worked with legends such as Jimmy Cliff\, Art Blakey\, Joss Stone\, Damian Marley to name but a few. \n\nOn drums there’s Kenrick Rowe (Jazz Warriors\, P J Harvey et al)\, who’s taking a short break from touring with The Specials. \nMichael ‘Bammi’ Rose (tenor sax and flute) is a veteran of the industry who has played with them all – Black Uhuru\, Aswad\, Paul Simon and many more – currently a member of the Jools Holland Orchestra. \nOriginal singer Just Stephen is known for his productions with Lee “Scratch” Perry\, Keith Richards and George Clinton\, for which he has received two Grammy Nominations. \nSuper talented Italian maestro bass player Michele Montolli (Sun Ra Arkestra\, Julie Dexter et al) \nand making a guest appearance Geo\, the Devon born singer-songwriter who is trying out some new songs with the band. \nThis performance is supported by PRS Foundation’s The Open Fund and National Windrush Day 2019 administered by the Church Urban Fund. Is a day celebrating world mental health day\, presented by Seed of Hope and friends. \n The performance and exhibition space will be open during the day from 10 AM until 5 PM hosting a variety of free tasters and talks including yoga\, shiatsu\, Emotional freedom technique and more. Art will be on display by the art groups from Rusty Road 2 Recovery and others\, as well as poetry and writing. \n Rusty Road 2 Recovery will  be in the car park with a selection of classic vehicles demonstrating air brush painting and promoting their unique brand of Mental Health Recovery. \n The community garden will be open for people to try therapeutic gardening and learn more about the Seed of Hope\, the work of Bon Everson and Feed Avalon.  \nFood and refreshments will be available in the garden for a small donation. \n In the evening there will be several bands playing including Fallen.
