SUMMARY:'FleeceFest' Free Mini Festival
DESCRIPTION:‘FleeceFest’ Free Mini Festival\n  \nCome join us for an afternoon of live music\, craft\, art\, food and drink and find out something new about the history of Glastonbury. \n  \nA brand new\, free mini festival aimed at young people is coming to the Red Brick Building in September! It promises a day full of creativity\, live music and local food. And\, what’s more\, the whole event has been organised by a fantastic team of young people. \nThe festival is part of a national project called New Wave\, which encourages young people to get involved in heritage-related activities. It coincides with the national Heritage Open Days festival organised each year\, which celebrates the rich history and heritage of communities across the UK. \nFleeceFest is a one-day mini festival with live music\, craft\, food\, and mural painting. It’s completely free to attend and\, while it’s aimed at young people\, all ages are welcome and there will be plenty for everyone to do. \nOne of the highlights will be painting a mural that celebrates and encapsulates the history of the Red Brick Building’s industrial past as a former sheepskin factory. The mural was sketched out in July by a group of young people\, helped by local artist Jon Minshull. The design uses images from Morlands Magazines as well as quotes from some of the stories of people who worked in the factories\, to tell the story of change at the Red Brick Building site. You’ll see the iconic Morlands gates\, sheep\, shoes\, chimneys and lots of people working busily. The mural will be painted in full colour during FleeceFest\, so do come along and join in if you like to get creative! \nYou’ll notice that there’s something sheepy about this event too\, with the chance to get creative with sheepskin crafts led by local textile expert Liana. Plus\, enjoy live music from local musicians\, including the premiere of new songs inspired by the stories of workers from the historic Morlands and Baily’s factories. \nThe name FleeceFest is a nod to the Red Brick Building’s past as part of the Morlands sheepskin factory\, a key player in Glastonbury’s economic and social history during the 20th century. The event will honour this heritage\, particularly the craftsmanship and memories of those who worked in the sheepskin industry. \nThis will be a relaxed afternoon for anyone who is inquisitive\, creative or who would just like to discover a new place in the community. Our fantastic team of young people have been working hard to create and organise this mini festival\, and we can’t wait to see it in action. Pop along\, bring a mate\, and enjoy a creative day for all the family! \n  \nThis event is being held in our Community Garden. All are welcome. \n  \nSaturday 14th September \n11am – 4pm \nFREE ENTRY \n  \nTickets: Booking is not compulsory\, but it helps us to estimate how many people will be attending. Please book a free ticket (below) if you can\, to help give us an idea of numbers. \n

SUMMARY:'Lost Wax' Jewellery Making Workshop with Rare Bear
DESCRIPTION:‘Lost Wax’ Jewellery Making Workshop\nWith Rare Bear \n  \nWould you like to learn the ancient art of Lost Wax Carving? Come along and experience the oldest process of jewellery making with me. \n  \nFirstly\, it’s important to have an open mind with what you want to create; maybe do a bit of designing and bring in your own ideas. However\, we will start the workshop looking through inspirational content\, then designing your ideas on paper. \nFrom then\, I will show you the different waxes and the techniques and tools you can use to produce the gorgeous piece you desire. The class will then involve moulding\, sculpting or carving your wax\, until you’re happy with your pieces. You can take your time\, and play with the different waxes available until you feel comfortable with what you have made. \nThere will be tea\, coffee and cake available for you to take breaks. \nOnce you feel happy with your work\, I will send your pieces off to my trusted Hatton Gardens casters for your lost wax to be cast into your preferred metal. This can take up to 2 – 3 weeks but is absolutely worth the wait. Once your pieces are cast and sent back to me\, I will do the final stages of finishing and polishing. \nWe can map out the workshop that caters to what you wish from it\, but most importantly; you having a couple pieces of your own hand made jewels. \nThe perfect gift to yourself and others. SUMMARY:Intuitive Painting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Intuitive Painting Workshop\nCreate Vulva Art\n  \nTreat yourself to the ultimate self-care for Valentines by creating your own yoni art! \n  \n2-Day Workshop: Tuesday 14th & Wednesday 15th February \n10am – 4pm \n  \nLearn step-by-step techniques with acrylic paints\, including how to layer and create depth and movement\, with Visionary Womb Artist; Sinead Holly Woodnutt. \n  \nFrom the artist: \nWe will let go of expectations\, be brave with colour and bring joy into throwing paint around the canvas! \nThis is the exact way that I create my own paintings\, its an intuitive way to paint with no fixed beginning or end vision. I shall show you how to find your images within the painting\, and find your own Vulva shapes. \nDuring this two day workshop\, we will not be working from life. You are welcome to bring in your own yoni images if you have them. I will have a great book of vulva drawings on hand for inspiration\, or you can work from the imagination by tapping into the cosmic portal of all creation (which I did a lot with my Viva La Vulva painting series). \nYou shall paint over three canvases the first day\, pure joyful and free expression with colour and mark making! This way you have room to breathe on the canvases by working on three at once\, rather than one fixed one. I will show you the magic rubber tools I use to create interesting patterns and shapes in the early layers of the painting. You can write messages\, embody the canvas with poetry or collage an image onto the canvas before painting. \nThe second day you will choose one canvas to bring to completion. I will be there to guide you and help you find your images\, and share techniques to keep the painting loose but also with a finished feel. \nWe will be in the beautiful\, light Studio space at the Red Brick Building\, Glastonbury. \nThis Vulva painting can be your devotion to yourself and the beauty and power you embody. It can be a devotion to the divine creatrix\, creator of all. \nYou can expect journaling and painting in a very supportive environment. \nAt the end\, you will go home with three canvases: one brought to completion and two to finish at home if you wish. \nAll levels of painting welcome and all people welcome. \nPlease find examples of my work at www.sineadhollywoodnutt.com or Instagram @creativewombheart \nI cannot wait see all your Vulva creations! \n  \n18’s and over only. \n  \nPrice \n£120 total for 2-day workshop \n  \nTo Book \nTo book\, please see here: www.vulvaart.eventbrite.com \n  \nFor More Info \nVisit:  www.sineadhollywoodnutt.com \nOr email: sineadhollypainting@gmail.com

SUMMARY:A4/Letter + What If? - Exhibitions
DESCRIPTION:A4/Letter + What If?\nArt Exhibitions \n  \nA4/Letter \nA4 is a familiar paper size in the UK at 210mm x 297mm (8.3in x 11.7in). In the US the standard letter paper is 8.5in x 11in (215.9mm x 279.4mm). Like many points of comparison between the UK and the US it is similar\, but different. In our respective countries we perceive of this size and shape as standard. \nDefinitions such as ‘large’ or ‘small’ are relative\, but when discussing paper are often assumed to be in relation to an A4/Letter standard. Similarly\, a square or circular piece of paper\, or one that is excessively long in relation to its width\, is seen as ‘unusual’. Yet seen together\, A4 and Letter paper show their idiosyncrasies\, revealing that ‘standard’ is an arbitrary construct. \n  \nMembers of the public were invited to produce a piece of work using a ‘standard’ piece of paper (A4 if living in the UK and Letter if living in the US). Suggestions included drawings\, paintings\, prints and collages\, as well as three dimensional or time-based (e.g. a film or sound work). \nParticipants were encouraged to challenge or highlight the impact\, or ‘invisibility’\, of a standard size\, shape and medium. Or explore the nature of difference and relations between nations (particularly pertinent right now in both the US and UK). Or\, to simply acknowledge the dimensions through the composition of the work. \n  \nExhibited together\, these works from the US and UK help to draw attention to the arbitrariness of the ‘standard’. It also implies how different perceptions from different parts of the world are constructed in part from the familiar things around us. \n  \n  \nWhat If? \nWhat If? is an exhibition of tests\, experiements and resolved pieces by Fine Art students from University Centre Somerset. \n  \n  \nBoth A4/Letter and What If? run at the Red Brick Building from Wednesday 4th December 2019 – Sunday 2nd February 2020. \nOpen daily\, 10am – 5pm \n  \nA4/Letter is a collaborative exhibition between University Centre Somerset (Taunton) and the University of Utah (Salt Lake City). The exhibition will move on to Salt Lake City after it finishes in Glastonbury.
