SUMMARY:Julie Lovelock Art Exhibition...Down To Earth
DESCRIPTION:Julie Lovelock will be bring her superb art exhibition to the RBB on the 16th of May 2018. \nJulie had a love of art\, particularly painting\, from a young age and showed promise when at school\, but found\, mainly due to a lack of confidence\, she veered toward a more academic direction. It was in 1993\, when a single mum\, that Julie discovered an Adult Education watercolour class which reignited her passion. She found watercolours to be a quicker and more practical medium when bringing up children and having little time. She would use nap times to paint\, teaching herself by experimentation\, and finding tremendous peace in doing so. \nJulie taught art at a local primary school for five years; she found art a great way for a child to learn to express and so boost their self-esteem. \nIn 2011\, Julie became self-employed giving her more time and freedom to paint\, her children all grown up. She discovered oils\, which quickly became her preferred medium. She says she finds them very healing by their being more natural. So\, she is primarily self-taught by experimentation. \nJulie usually enjoys painting nature\, either landscape or animals; she finds her love of the land and light\, and its creatures\, comes out in her work. Lately\, she has been branching out into different areas\, so trying her hand at celebrity portraits and more urban landscapes. She is also a Yoga teacher\, spiritual healer\, counsellor and clairvoyant.

SUMMARY:Viking Weave Bracelet Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop you will make your own Viking weave bracelet. This will teach you how to produce a length of Viking weave\, make fittings for the ends as well as a clasp. All tools and materials are included in the price. \nNearly 1\,300 years ago\, Vikings used long pieces of silver and gold wire to weave ropes.  These woven wire ropes were then stretched and made into jewellery. This wire weaving is called Viking weave (or trichinopoly chain). This chain was used as currency where it was cut into lengths. \nPlease book places direct with Holly. \nHolly was born in the New Forest\, Hampshire\, in 1975. Growing up in an area of outstanding natural beauty and also living very close to the south coast\, gave Holly an innate appreciation for organic forms and natural aesthetics\, which is still apparent in her jewellery today. \nHolly began creating jewellery in her early teens and by fifteen she was already selling her jewellery to an enthusiastic base of returning customers. \nAfter leaving school Holly went on to study Art to Degree level. She has also trained in and uses a variety of techniques including: beading\, beating\, wrapping\, Peruvian wire work\, weaving and Viking weave. Holly has also had training as a silversmith. \nMore recently Holly has moved into the production of intricate wire woven flower crowns as well as wire work bonsai tree sculptures. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Carrie Pooler & Volker Mersch
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 27th July to Monday 18th September 2017. Daily 9am-5pm. \nCarrie Pooler is a Bristol artist working in acrylics\, collage and printing. \nCarrie spent her early years in the Middle East\, moving back to the UK at the age of seven.  Carrie moved to Bristol in 1982\, and has stayed ever since.  After leaving a long career in housing\, regeneration and partnerships\, she has been focussing on her art for the past 9 years. \nMuch of her art is influenced by her love of the Middle East\, of music and of the vibrant city and landscapes in the beautiful West Country.  Her paintings and collages often feature abstract and semi-abstract Bristol and West Country scenes\, her guitar and various Arabic jugs. \nCarrie is continuing to explore colour\, shape\, texture and different perspectives\, often using a West Country or Middle Eastern palette.  Her work continues to experiment with texture and the overlaying of different perspectives to give a cubist feel. \nCarrie’s work includes paintings\, collages and prints (lino\, collagraph\, screen prints). \nCards and giclee prints are also available of some of her work. Art work and cards will be for sale throughout this exhibition. \nClick here to find out more. \nVolker Mersch from Germany presents a variety of local landscapes. Additional work also displayed from his travels.

SUMMARY:Alce Harfield
DESCRIPTION:ALCE HARFIELD – about the Exhibition.  \nAlce has traded at Glastonbury festival since 1989 and has a great passion\, like many\, for the event. \nThis exhibition showcases some of the original paintings featured at last year’s festival and a range of brand new Limited Edition prints. She will also be showing some of the florals and landscapes which have been her love for over 25 years since she became a professional artist. Her Glastonbury painting ‘Togetherness’ has been shortlisted for the ‘Somerset Life Landscape Painter of the year’ and last year she won the Mendip Retail Business of the Year. \nAbout The Artist \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlce was born in Sussex in 1966 to a very creative family. Her father\, Geoffrey\, was a commercial photographer\, lecturer and picture framer and her mother Joan\, Head of Art at a local convent school. Her brother and sister went on to study Architecture and Printmaking. \nAlce completed a Pre-degree course at Worthing College of Art\, before gaining a 2:1 BA (Hons) Degree in Interior Design at Leicester Polytechnic. She moved to Bristol in 1988 to design pubs for Courage Ltd and then went on to design office and shop interiors for another design practice. Following redundancy she worked as a freelance designer in the centre of Bristol on a number of commercial and domestic projects. \nIn the early 90s Alce owned The Silly Fish Shops in Bristol and Bath selling her paintings and plasterwork based on the theme of fish. After 10 years\, with rising costs she closed the last one to concentrate on her painting. A move to Somerset from Bristol allowed her to build her dream studio and live the ‘good life’! \nIn August 2003 baby Cuba arrived and baby number two\, Bali was born in Nov 2004. She is just about managing to juggle painting with parenting but finds her new role as a mother is as fulfilling as her work. \nEarly in 2004 she had two cataract operations which gave her a completely new perspective to her work! \nAlce’s main incentive for painting is still foremost the pleasure it brings and a continual fascination with colour and texture. \nShe is influenced by many artists from Picasso to Turner\, from Wallasse Ting to Raul Duffy and is inspired by the use of colour by Jake Sutton. \nEager to experiment she is well known for her wild skies\, seascapes\, cityscapes and her first love\, bright florals. A brush with abstract art is still developing! \nThe development of a uniquely formulated three dimensional acrylic with light reflecting qualities has taken her work in a more contemporary direction with an emphasis on textural layers and additional mixed media from resin bumble bees to natural skeleton leaves. \nShe has been published by De Montford Fine Art\, Woodmansterne and has sold original paintings to Soloman and Whitehead.
