SUMMARY:Silent Voices
DESCRIPTION:Youth and children are the ones who suffer the most in conflicts and under occupation. They are also the ones who will hold the future of Palestine and Israel in their hands\, the ones we pray will grow up with peace and prosperity. \nChildren in the West Bank village of Bil’in worked under the guidance of Liverpool photographer\, Elaine Stapleton\, to produce an eloquent and moving set of A2 sized photos depicting everyday life in a Palestinian village living under military occupation. \nThe exhibition was commissioned by Liverpool Friends of Bil’in\, who work to end the human rights violations suffered by the people of Bil’in and who support the village by making links of friendship and solidarity. \nThe results can be seen in this travelling exhibition of  photographs which has hung in churches and cathedrals\,  schools\, colleges and universities\, cafes and theatres\, and in art and community centres throughout the country and we are proud to have here in the Events Space at the Red Brick Building.

SUMMARY:Cabbage to Clover by Coo Geller
DESCRIPTION:I am an artist and printmaker living and working in Bristol. \nMy work is about nature. I am drawn to something\, perhaps a plant or a vegetable\, and I may notice a tiny aspect of it that I find fascinating. I record this and communicate its special\, unnoticed qualities. \nBristol Clover Prints \nI live near Stoke Park and from my walks I have become interested in the clover growing around and about. I have been taking their photographs and working with them directly to make images of the green three-\, or sometimes four or five- leaf clovers of many shapes\, sizes\, patterns and shades of green\, and their corresponding flowers of pink or white. \nI have found four leaf clovers amongst them\, but I think we are lucky to have them all. \nMy clover series is printed as giclee prints – this is a fine art digital printing process combining pigment-based inks with high quality archival paper. \nCabbage to snail\, snail to bird \nA recurring theme in my work is that of metamorphosis – cabbages to snails\, snails to birds. These images represent my fascination with the idea of the life cycle in which organic matter\, in passing from past to present\, carries with it\, yet totally transforms\, its own physical nature. It is about an ever-changing\, interlocking continuum – the natural world to which I\, too\, belong. \nOrange Peel \nI am forever amazed by the beauty of the foods we eat and that surround us in our everyday lives. Working with orange peel\, I scraped and pressed their skins\, and this formed the basis of my orange peel series of prints and laser cut pieces. \nI want to bring the sense of wonderment to my work that I feel for everyday \nthings – a parsnip\, a patch of moss\, the peel of an orange … I give value to each little thing and show its importance in the world. \nFor further information about my work please contact me. \n

SUMMARY:Politics and Protest\, Posters from the Women's Liberation Movement exhibition 1st-11th September
DESCRIPTION:Hatpins to Hashtags brings an exhibition of dynamic posters from the Women’s Liberation Movement (1978-2000) to share with audiences around the South West on from 1st-11th September 2018. \nDrawn from the rich collection of over 1000 posters held by The Feminist Archive South they are testmony to the activist energy of the movement and the determination of women to speak out and organise on their own terms. \nCalling women together to campaign\, learn\, protest and celebrate the posters speak to us now of the burning issues of the time – many of which continue to reverberate today. The posters are inspiring and will also provoke debate: What was achieved? What is still to be done? \nJoins us to discuss these questions during events and debates that will accompany the exhibition exploring\, for example: what is Feminism? Who is a Feminist? Then\, now and into the future. \nThere will be accompanying workshops\, cross generational conversations and panel discussions – look out for the programme for your area that will be posted nearer the time. Local speakers and organisations are invited to bring their concerns and knowledges to the Hatpins to Hashtags table: email feminist.archive40@gmail.com to get involved.
