SUMMARY:Friday Night Jazz: Yetii
DESCRIPTION:The Red Hot Jazz Club presents\nYetii\nFeaturing Jake McMurchie \n  \n*N.B. Advance ticket sales will stop on Thursday evening. A limited number of entry-only tickets will be available to purchase on the door on Friday evening.* \n  \nThe Red Hot Jazz Club is very happy to welcome Bristol based piano trio Yetii\, bringing their original compositions and versions of popular songs from The Beatles\, Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake\, alongside reworked jazz classics. \nYetii creates a sound world of complex yet consonant harmony supporting simple\, singable melodies. Solos morph into intense group improvisations that focus on interlocking\, minimalist fragments: a shared single voice that ebbs and flows between and within the band’s original compositions. \nThe band has been playing together for 5 years\, with a monthly residency at The Greenbank in Bristol to a regularly sold out crowd. The band released their debut album ‘Live at The Greenbank’ in November 2022 to critical acclaim. \n  \n“A trio of fluent and wildly inventive improvisers” – London Jazz News \n“Sensitive\, nuanced and not afraid of understatement- always performed with personality\, wit and humour… A great outfit to watch!” – Alex Merritt \n“Long has developed into the kind of musician who makes bass solos interesting” – The Jazzmann \n“Expect improvised goodness” – Bristol247 \n  \nPlus\, there’s the option to enjoy a delicious dinner from The Old Tannery while you watch the show. \n  \nFeaturing: \nAlex Veitch – Piano \nAshley John Long – Bass \nAlex Goodyear – Drums \nPlus\, guest Jake McMurchie – Sax \n  \nALEX VEITCH is a Bristol based pianist\, composer\, arranger\, and teacher. He performs regularly at venues including Ronnie Scott’s\, The Vortex\, and Cafe Oto\, including a current bimonthly residency upstairs at Ronnie Scott’s. Alex also plays prolifically as a sideman including with MADLY\, Samantha Lindo\, Family Business\, and Bristol Street Music\, and counts Bill Evans\, Keith Jarrett and Brad Mehldau among his main influences. \nASHLEY JOHN LONG is an award-winning virtuoso double bassist and composer. He has performed and recorded internationally with some of the UK’s leading Jazz musicians\, including John Law\, Keith Tippett\, Hans Koller and Nigel Price\, whilst his work as a soloist has seen the premiers of numerous new works for solo bass. He also works as an educator and is a lecturer at Cardiff University and Coleg Gwent. \nALEX GOODYEAR is a Cardiff based Drummer\, Bandleader and Composer.
